Sara’s winter poems

Sara’s winter poems

During my stay in Krakow, I took up again many of my passions that I left unattended before – cinema, art, theatre and poetry. These are some of the poems I have written this last month. English, Spanish and a bit of Polish sprinkled in between.

Don’t stop yet (you’ll find it)

Gold fever sparks relentless search,
For something new, something to hold
Something worth buying, someone to care,
Diamonds are waiting for your dirt-ridden nails
Flowers grow and bloom as you walk by,
Desperately waiting for your return (they wither away and die)
Deadly charisma, your smile pointed like a gun
Even dreams have a fee for a blinding sun
Helen of Troy reincarnate, decoy and mirror to all
Thousands ships sank and you’ve just begun
Fitzgerald mystique, victimless crime you seek
Meaningless Midas, your blind cruelty makes me sick

Photograph

The snow globe theatrics freeze the frame,
Kaleidoscopic faces just change the name,
Drop, drop, drop from the stalactite,
Will time ever stop?
Rewind, rewind, rewind until it breaks,
Tangled vines of old forgotten tapes,
Webby dry fingers just out of reach,
Mind turns to body and body into dust.
Body, betray me if you must:
No legs left to run, no mouth left to scream,
Another nightmarish shadow to face,
Can you wake me up from this terrible dream?
Could I ever escape this inescapable fate?
Indistinguishable violence from teeth-rotting love,
Frost in the window still turning to tears,
Blinding sunlight is clouding my fears,
Greyish hair, then – one step closer to the grave.
Bloody-eyed snowman, lifeless heart and limbs,
The point of no return –
Can I make it stop?
Can I make it stop?
Did it stop?

Unknown

Where’s the meaning?
Angel calls from above,
Repeated numbers on a phone.
Where’s the meaning?
Make a difference they shout
Still don’t know what the fuss is about.
Where’s the meaning?
Water flood the ocean,
Trees plague the forest.
A small house on a forgotten hill,
Is a fireplace enough excitement?
Do you still need a forest fire?
Burning bright city lights?
Does this feel right?
A vitality that can hurt, scar and burn,
Preaching to the preacher about fire.
A sweet nothing is what you bring to me,
And now that I’m almost out of battery,
I’ll say,
The meaning is

A German and a Spaniard walk into a bar I – w/ Julia

An estranged, eerie, angelical face
An angel singing above my head
Virginal, whorish, a rose by any other name
Shadows dissolving, everything merging into dust
Alice in Wonderland or in any other place
A glimpse of bodies touching, shimmering under Virgin Mary
A portal to the underworld, don’t let go or you’ll vanish
Shadows painted on the walls
Pearly whites cat, your touch I shall follow
The melody of a strange night

A German and a Spaniard walk into a bar II – w/ Julia (again)

A slow whisper, disappearing in the noise
Black spider on the wall, are you a witness of it all?
Happy music, joyful sounds, an odd man out in the crowd
Blood on your hands, but you’re an innocent heart ♡
People communicating in made up languages, unknown symbols
Business man, this is not your land!
A man looking like Jesus enters the room,
Jesus, help me find my proper place
Nie wiem gdzie jestem, jest trochę dzywny
Spiritual awakening, drifting back to sleep
Madness intertwined, with loving moves
Airconditioning won’t dissolve the human heat

Perdido en traducción

Mírame a los ojos, en mi idioma, en el tuyo
En otro, en uno ajeno;
En el que tú quieras,
puente inventado para alcanzarte.
Zambúllete en la noche estrellada
Alumbrada solo por tu mirada
Avanzando desesperada, sin aliento,
Sin poder siquiera llegarte.
Embriaguez completa,
Desinhibida sin ser esta vez veneno
Marcas de guerra, tomadas por medallas,
Ahora son estrellas.
Pasado desmenuzado,
Polvos pronto lejanos,
Estrías, rojeces, heridas, nimias niñerías…
Acércate y húndete en ellas.
Luna lunar y sol soleado,
Grandes pequeñeces,
Censuradas por incesante miedo,
Todas desaparecen al ver la luz divina de tu cielo.

A fly on the wall

Isolation, isolation, isolation
Eating away your skin
Rotten flesh, what a lovely face…
Fly fly on the wall,
Who’s the fairest of them all?
Let them know of the burning inside!
I can’t get you out of my head,
My room, my bed, my sheets, my clothes
You are still in every part of me – my body, my home.
Wreckless behaviour,
Consumerist endeavour,
All will be punished tonight.
Blood-shot eyes, romantic sighs,
If only I could hear of the outside,
Other’s lives, other’s bodies – another home.
All secrets wrapped in plastic bags,
You will not know if they are out again,
Isolation for a few more heartbeats – and then it’s over.

Storm (que llueva, que llueva)

The clouds are needed to see the sun,
You plead to me as you turn away,
Medicinal philosophy needed to stay.
I was about to be kind to someone,
Are they still here?
Am I?
El pronóstico se equivocaba,
Como de costumbre,
¿Quién sabía que la tormenta se avecinaba?
(Tú lo sabías - ¿estás saciada? ¿agotada? ¿encarcelada?)
Otra palabra que no entenderás,
Mi alma está hecha de heridas de guerra,
Balas de goma, todas ellas.
You don’t have my letter,
And I don’t have yours,
So I am relieved that the turbulence wasn’t forecasted,
I couldn’t have changed anyways.
Kocham cię,
Adiós.

Medicinal sickness

Open scars, open scars
Shine on me with your big red light
Ambiguous form, shapeless scorn
Picking on the thread till it dissolves.
Infection is spreading, I’m in love again
Carpenter horror, bodies intertwine
Can you distinguish your eyes from mine?
Speak to me, friendly face without breath
Beautiful blister I keep tonguing,
Shall you ever be cured?
I lost my hand, lost my head, lost my self – lost a friend,
Scrambled brains for an uneasy heart.
Stop the hemorrhage.

Prisionera

Hacer de tripas corazón
Y vomitar cada emoción,
Envolvente montaña rusa
Me transforma en una mareada ilusa.
Atrapados en mi perversa telaraña,
El que avisa, no engaña,
Una y otra, una y otra excusa
Para escapar ileso de Medusa.
Gélida mirada, tras tu espalda
Dormitaba, observaba y planeaba
¿Acaso me consideras una intrusa?
Detrás del muro, tu beso me acusa, ¿deberías?

(Pop) culture

Sabrina, John or Jesus
All carpenters,
Should’ve seen ‘em.
Which to choose? Who to pick?
Choose your character, make it quick!
Misogynistic romantic fantasy,
All wrapped in cute heart-shaped bosoms?
Body horror, paranoia and fiction,
Is the scientist mad? - depends on what he’s searching.
Like Anna, Antonius and all before me,
Be it a fated death or a guilt-ridden possession,
His scars resembled theirs, theirs resembled mine,
Can’t you see the open wound, the crown of thrones,
The cross I bear, the sacrifices I have made,
Stigmatization scars cover my body, can’t you see?
I can’t.
Play another one.

Oda a ella

Bella Muerte,
Que me entierras en tus brazos,
Me desmayo con tus encantos,
Me derrito en tus dulces labios,
Átame con tus rojos lazos.
Bella muerte,
Cada noche espero tu llegada,
Qué catarsis aquella velada,
Pues a la hora definitiva,
Responderé a tu llamada.

Oda a ella II

No me devuelvas a la orilla,
No quiero volver a despertar.
No dejes que me lleven,
No me van a salvar.
Con tu fuerza no podrán,
No les dejes llegar.
Con tu vestido azul,
Seré feliz al fondo del mar.

Falsa esperanza

En el fondo de la nada,
Me sentía desesperada,
Recibí la visita de una dulce hada,
Por sus palabras me sentí halagada.
Aquella luz acompañada de baladas,
Me rescató y pude salir de aquella nada,
Al salir ya no estaba abandonada,
Nunca más me vi frustrada.
Miles de hadas aleteaban a mi alrededor,
Hicieron iluminar mi interior,
Me deslumbré con aquel resplandor,
Y al fondo de la nada volví,
Con aquel ardor.
