Sport & Nature in the South of Poland

Sport & Nature in the South of Poland

Dear volunteers,

If you are passionate about sports and activities in the nature, you are lucky to be in Poland!

I am going to share with you some tips about my experience during this year. I have not been travelling to much over the cities, but I know pretty well now some mountains here and some activities that you can do.

1.Zakopane – Tatry

Zakopane is a very nice city just under the mountains, so will be your final destination once you take a bus from Krakow to Zakopane. For that, the best is to search for the best connection in https://www.busradar.pl/ or straight away in its App.

3.Lake Czorsztynskie

3.Lake Czorsztynskie

There are many daily buses and the price is really good, around 20 zl one way and last around 2.5 hours.

About the routes and hikes that you can do, there are plenty of options. From easy, medium, and high-level ones, where you need to be very well-trained and fully equipped. I recommend you some Apps, like “Trails Tatra Mountains” to check the routes, it shows distance and time for each segment of the route, so it is really good information. Then you have another one to use while you are hiking with the GPS called “Mapy.cz

Winter is cold, snowy, and has a few hours of light. Summer is warm, has more light, but is full of people. The best is to enjoy both seasons, as I did.

3.Lake Czorsztynskie

As you can see, the pictures are not only about hiking. I tried Ski touring, Ski cross-country, Fat bikes and alpinism. Let’s say that winter with snow gives you plenty of possibilities. And then in spring/summer, you can also try to hike the highest peak in Poland, called “Rysy” as I did with two friends.

2. Babya Gora & Bieszczady

More Natural Parks in the South. One mountain is called “Babya Gora” where you can have very nice views of Tatry, and the other one is a National Park close to Ukraine called “Bieszczady”. I can tell you that it is more complicated to reach these places by public transport. For “Babya Gora” I booked a tour with transportation included. This option is very nice because you can meet new people and, in my case, I was the only foreigner, so you can integrate more into Polish society. About Bieszczady, the best option is to rent a car and spend some days there, it’s not as touristic as Zakopane, so you will see an even wilder nature and for that, public transport is not possible.

3.Lake Czorsztynskie

3.Lake Czorsztynskie
This lake is very special because it offers many possibilities as well. You can go by Bus until “Nowy Targ” using the App that I showed you before, and from here take another bus until the lake. Of course, is much better if you rent a car. This lake is around 40 km round, and you can rent there bikes to ride all over the lake, which has very nice and safely routes. On the way you have the opportunity to visit 2 castles and also cross to Slovakia a bit if you wish. Not only that, but you can also rent a SUP to sail on the lake and other water sports. There are some campings where you can stay and chill with some music as well.

I just wanted to show you a small picture about what you can do. There are many of possibilities and I recommend you try all of them, for me was very special and I met a lot of new people. Also join to some groups on Facebook about hiking or mountains, it helps.
